Busting Myths over Pendle

Pendle in Lancashire has taken an innovative approach to addressing community issues by launching an exciting new cartoon strip.

It is the first area in the UK to take the approach of looking at serious issues in a gently humorous way through the weekly cartoon strip.

The new strip was inspired by recent consultation with local people of all ages and backgrounds right across Pendle about community issues which concerned them.

Funded by East Lancashire Together, an initiative committed to bringing together different communities, the strips are designed to help bust 'myths' and improve community awareness and understanding of different cultures, ages and backgrounds in a friendly but funny way.

Alan Davies, Leader of Pendle Council, says: "Pendle is a friendly community but we are not complacent and are continuously striving to improve community relations.

"I think the cartoons are a wonderful way of looking at the vital issue of community cohesion in a creative and enjoyable way," he adds.

Talented Private Eye writer Peter Rigg of Nelson, Lancashire , is the cartoonist of the new strip.

The title is inspired by the Robert Neill novel, Mist Over Pendle about the Pendle Witches.

Peter says: "It's always good to try and laugh at ourselves and I hope that Myths Over Pendle will help us all to do that, whilst opening our eyes a little bit more about the place we live in."

This project is spear-headed by Pendle Partnership, the local strategic partnership, and is linked to its Community Strategy.

We want to know what you think of our strip, so please take a minute to complete our Myths Over Pendle Survey.
