Pendle is a beautiful place to visit with stunning countryside views. Travel through this countryside and you will come across some great towns and villages of real character and charm, each offering the visitor something interesting to see.

Local Attractions and Places to Visit

Barnoldswick

Home of the famous Rolls Royce aero engines, Barnoldswick is an attractive market town that bustles with life, with an annual festival and many other events held here every year. The town square and the church of St. Mary-Le-Ghyll are "little gems", as is Greenberfield Locks - "the best kept locks in the country" . Nearby are the pretty villages of Salterforth and Earby. If life becomes too tranquil then take in a Steam Day at Bancroft Mill.

Colne

Colne has become renowned for its annual blues festival which attracts visitors and artists from all over the world. The Municipal Hall hosts some of the blues artists and a variety of great comedy, music, and other shows throughout the year. Another famous "institution" locally is Boundary Mill Stores. Nearby is Empress Mills, making Colne great for a spot of retail therapy. Once the shopping is done appreciate the charm of Wycoller Country Park , with its lovely tea rooms and craft centre. Walk around " Lake Burwain " or take a delighftful canal trip with Foulridge Canal Cruises.

Nelson

Nelson is dominated by Pendle Hill. A number of special villages lie in its folds, including Roughlee and Newchurch with its beautiful church and quirky emporium called Witches Galore. Nearby Barley is a lovely spot for walks, and offers a number of places for refreshment, as does Barrowford, where the charm of the Pendle Heritage Centre, with its gallery, lovely walled garden, and new garden museum, mingles with trendy shops.

Events in Pendle

Pendle has a great programme of events all year round. There's something for everyone. For the active and those that love the countryside there's Pendle Walking Festival and the Pendle Bike Fest - a fantastic event for the family as well as the keen cyclist.

Music lovers will not be disappointed with a host of good acts appearing at Colne Municipal Hall. The hall itself is one of the main venues for one of the best and biggest blues festivals around - the Great British Blues Festival, with acts and patrons from all over the world.

Families are well catered for with a number of events in Pendle's parks and at Wycoller Country Park, as well as the many country fairs and shows throughout the year, including Barnoldswick Festival which features music, arts and crafts, hot air balloons, and a town crier's competition.
