Parks Strategy

The Parks Strategy (1998-2005) was devised in order to provide a framework for developing the Borough's parks to meet the needs of local people and visitors into the 21st century.

The Strategy looks at the provision of parks in Pendle and examines how they are currently being used, the views of local park users and the value of our parks. It then goes on to set out Pendle Council's main aims for the Borough's parks, and describes the implications of these aims and objectives for the Parks Service.

From this statement, a more systematic analysis looks at five Strategic Issues for the parks, listing the Council's main objectives on each issue and the strategic approach which will be taken to address every issue over the next 7 years. Within the broad strategy, a separate and more detailed management plan will also be produced for each of the parks described below.

Pendle Council are about to commence producing and developing a new Parks Strategy scheduled to be introduced and implemented by April 2005. The service area intends to use extensive consultation methods in preparing the new strategy to promote continued 'Best Value' service delivery.

Outdoor Recreation Strategy

The Borough of Pendle's first ever Outdoor Recreation Strategy has been produced, written in conjunction with Strategic Leisure. This Strategy represents the first dedicated strategy focussed on outdoor recreation, and provides a vision, core principles, strategic objectives and related actions to guide the development of outdoor sport and recreation over the next five years. It is not designed to provide all the answers to all the problems, but seeks to:

  • Identify key findings about the adequacy of existing facilities for outdoor sport
  • Act as a guide to the priorities for the sporting community
  • Identify where outdoor sport can have a greater impact in the future delivery of wider objectives
