Projects Underway in Nelson

Projects in 2004/05

St. Mary's Conservation Area

A £3.9 million Group Repair scheme is already underway in the St. Mary's Conservation Area of Nelson.

This has included fitting traditional sash windows to be sensitive to
the heritage of these houses. However, 21st century improvements have been added which the Victorians would not have been able to enjoy - such as double glazing for warmth and energy efficiency.

Traditional materials and original design features have been used for the chimney stacks which are in keeping with the period of the houses. Also, Heritage designed front doors, new gutters and rain pipes, and boundary walls and gates are part of the sensitive improvements being carried out.

180 properties will be improved under this scheme, which will hopefully have a positive impact on the area as a whole.

Feeling Safe, Living Without Fear

A range of crime reduction work to improve community safety will be taking place in the Marsden and Bradley Wards of Nelson.

The work, totalling £50,000, will include:

CCTV Cameras in Marsden
New security lighting for sheltered bungalows and houses
New fencing to improve security of properties
Installation of drop down kerbs to provide off street parking.
