During 22nd -26th November 2004 , an 'Enquiry by Design' masterplanning exercise took place looking at a large part of the Whitefield ward. This intensive 5 day process was facilitated by the Prince Foundation who brought with them a team of professional architects, urban designers, transport planners, etc, to work alongside representatives from a wide range of local organisations and the local community. The aim of the event was to develop a strategy and a masterplan for addressing the housing and environment issues within the area which everyone was broadly happy with.
A copy of the Whitefield Enquiry By Design presentation given at the public meeting on Friday 26 th November can be viewed as a pdf document . This contains a copy of the masterplan for the area and illustrations of how the changes in the area could look.
Paper copies of the presentation are also available to view in the reception at Nelson Town Hall. A full copy of the final EBD report can be downloaded as a pdf document. Please note this is a large document (2.53 mb) and will take some time to download.
Two Neighbourhood Management Teams will be established in Nelson in Autumn. The teams will work to co-ordinate Council services in a better way and to tackle a range of problems such as community safety and poor environment. They will also support communities to get more involved in tackling local problems. For more information contact Sam Plum, Neighbourhood Management Co-ordinator on 01282 661339 .
