The Vision for Brierfield
"A vibrant and successful town in which a dynamic employment and service sector is complemented by a richly varied range of house types and environments offering real housing choice and access to quality schools, healthcare and leisure within a pleasant and attractive environment."
This vision is taken from Brierfield's Area Development Framework (ADF), a regeneration plan for the next 10-15 years. It was developed by consultants GVA Grimley after an 8 month consultation process which included walkabouts, hands on planning events and public meetings with residents and local agencies and businesses.
Regeneration will play on the town's strengths including:
An increased population
Good motorway access
The Leeds and Liverpool Canal
High levels of owner occupancy
Established community groups
Regeneration Areas
Brierfield's Area Development Framework (ADF) is the smallest in Pendle and covers the wards of Brierfield and Reedley.
Challenges Brierfield Faces
Challenges Housing Market Renewal will try to overcome include:
Low and decreasing average house prices especially in the town centre
An over supply of terraced housing
Lack of open spaces
Lack of image and identity
Crime and community safety especially in the town centre
Lack of youth facilities
Solutions to these challenges cannot come from Pendle Council alone. Community involvement and other stakeholders including the Primary Care Trust, Police and environmental groups need to make the most of the once in a life time opportunity of Housing Market Renewal is offering Brierfield and the whole of Pendle.
