Available to disabled occupants to assist with the provision of adaptations, in order to ensure that they have greater access to, and use of their homes.
If you think you may qualify for this grant, you must first contact the Social Services Directorate (see below), who will arrange for the assessment of the needs of the disabled person. They then put forward recommendations to the Council, who will then evaluate the reasonableness and practicality of providing the adaptations or alterations.
Disabled Facilities Grants, which may be awarded to owners or tenants, have a maximum value of £25,000 and can be used for such adaptations as:
Proving Ramps for wheelchairs (Not electric Scooters)
Stair lifts and through floor lifts
Level access showers
Low level appliances such as light switches, power sockets, heating controls and kitchen units
Small extensions for the provision of a Ground floor bedroom and/or bathroom facilities.
These grants are subject to a Test of Financial Resources to establish whether or not the applicant has a contribution to make towards the cost of the works. The test is prescribed by Parliament and the Council has no discretion over its use, or the results obtained from it.
If you are the occupant of a Registered Social Landlord Property, (Housing Association) then your first request should be direct to your Registered Social Landlord.
