Housing Rents

The Council sets a rent for each property. There are a number of ways in which council tenants can pay their rent. We will help tenants to claim any available assistance with paying their rent. When tenants are in arrears we will make agreements to reduce the arrears. However, we do take legal action if tenants persistently fail to pay their rent.

Paying your Rent

Your rent is due in advance every Monday. If you prefer you can pay every fortnight or every month but payments must be made in advance, and you must arrange this with the rent section. There are a number of methods by which you can pay your rent.

•  At any of the councils payment offices, using cash, cheques, credit/debit cards.

•  Standing Order, monthly through your Bank/Building Society.

•  Online, if you go to the Borough Of Pendle website at www.pendle.gov.uk

•  By phone, please contact the Housing Rent Section

Repaying your rent

If you are in arrears we will try and reach a realistic agreement for you to repay the amount due over a period of time. The Council follows a set procedure in order to recover arrears, which could lead to legal proceedings being taken and the loss of your home. If you find you are experiencing difficulties with paying your rent, however temporary, please contact the Housing Rent Section as early as possible to prevent the matter becoming more serious.
