What is Race Equality?

Pendle's residents are being asked what they think of the Council's new Draft Race Equality Scheme.

The new scheme aims to address the way Council services are delivered and taken up by Pendle people from different racial backgrounds.

Looking at partnership working, service delivery, communications and its staff, the scheme sets the Council goals to become an organisation that provides services that respond to the diverse needs of all of Pendle's communities.

Leader of Pendle Council, Coun Alan Davies, said:

“The Council's vision is to make Pendle a cohesive, multicultural community in which there is equality of opportunity, and diversity is valued and celebrated.

“To achieve this, we have to make sure that we continue to work hard in being a professional organisation that values all its people, delivers high quality services, and everyone works effectively in partnership.

“The new Race Equality Scheme will help the Council do this, and now that it's has been drafted, we're keen to consult our stakeholders and find out what they think of the actions and outcomes we're proposing.”

Local people from all backgrounds, not just Pendle's ethnic minority community, have until Friday 11 March to give their views. We would like to here your views on the questions below:

1. Is there a gap between the way people from racial minority groups are served by the Council, and the people of Pendle as a whole?

2.If you need to contact the Council, what is the easiest way of getting in touch?

3.Has it ever been difficult getting in touch?

4.Have you or your family/friend ever needed an interpreter or written translation?

5.Did you vote in the local election?
