The Borough of Pendle's REGENERATION UNIT aims to build a sustainable economy that will enhance the quality of life in the Pendle of tomorrow. See the Economic Development Strategy.
Partnership is at the heart of Pendle's current economic revival. By working closely with other organisations, the Council's Regeneration Unit* has, in recent years, helped to secure over £30 million pounds worth of funding from both the UK Government and European Union. In turn, this funding has enabled the Unit to develop a diverse range of initiatives that benefit both local businesses and local people.
A comprehensive Business Support package aims to encourage investment by both local and inward moving businesses that will help them to develop a competitive edge and increase their ability to adapt quickly to market changes.
To help local people take advantage of the new job opportunities that are created the Regeneration Unit has developed a diverse range of Employment Initiatives to improve access to training that will enable them to improve their skills. In turn, these new skills help to improve the competitiveness of local businesses and help to attract new industries into Pendle.
An attractive and healthy environment plays a fundamental role in making Pendle a better place to live and work. One of the core activities of the Regeneration Unit is to encourage the improvement of the borough's Town Centres.
Tourism is a dynamic growth industry. The Regeneration Unit is fully committed to helping Pendle exploit its full growth potential whilst at the same time protecting the area's outstanding landscape.
The combination of these initiatives helps to create a local economy that is stronger, more diverse and sustainable in the long-term.
For useful facts and figures on Pendle and Lancashire, see the Lancashire County Council website.
Over the last five years the Regeneration Unit has supported over 300 businesses, helping them to create more than 1,500 new jobs and safeguard those of a further 2,600 employees.
